  • Supervised an agile development team composed of analysts, testers, and developers. Management responsibilities included serving as the team’s ScrumMaster and technical lead, performing employee evaluations, participating in various recruitment events, interviewing candidates for intern and new hire positions, and working with other development supervisors to create new job descriptions/career pathing to match our new agile development model.
  • During this time I helped the Account Management team explore many technical and work process improvements. These improvements included everything from doing usability testing and sprint 0s to encourage end user engagement and buy in on new projects, to switching to capacity planning so we could better manage our sprints, to increasing our reliance on automation testing so we could continue to move quickly while ensuring quality.

  • Served as the lead developer on the ASP.Net Web application used by the company to manage its customer’s accounts, as well as the lead on its Payment System, Deposit Management System, and other sundry processes. Additionally, helped the company in its transition to an Agile development process and served as the ScrumMaster for its Account Management Team. The Account Management Team was responsible for the business processes that affected an account from the moment the account was enrolled up until the time the account left the company.
  • In the Scrum Master role, I was responsible for assisting the Team with its growth and development, and communicating with end users and stakeholders to: help the Product Owner procure their stories; secure stakeholder buy in for initiatives that generated from within the Team; and educate the stakeholders on the overall Scrum process so they could work with the Team effectively.

  • While working at Infinite Energy, I was lucky enough to be approached with a chance to join a start up called Infinite Music. I was excited at the opportunity to be involved in this project because I knew that I would learn more from this experience than I would gain in an equivalent amount of time spent at my current job.
  • By the time I left we had built a 'proof of concept' application in Microsoft Silverlight. This web application sought to teach users to play music through a game like interface. Once they progressed beyond the game they could create their own songs in an online studio and share them with other users. The Silverlight application was exposed through a JSP website, the server side architecture was built in Scala, and everything ran off of a mySQL database.
  • My primary interaction was on the Silverlight application. I designed the keyboard layout that attempted to make people sound 'good' no matter how little they knew of music, and built DSP algorithms and UI controls that could be used to analyse the period/frequency of wave files, create custom sound packets, loops, effects, etc. That work extended to creating our own codec that could mix the wave files real time, and I was heavily involved in the design and implementation of the studio. As a 3 man start up I also got a chance to be exposed to the various aspects of setting up a software shop that you don't have to think of when you work for an established company. From picking a Source Control system, to bug tracking software, you get the picture. My last duty for the company was to travel with the owner and new lead developer across the country, demoing the application to various music executives with the hopes of securing a contract so we could use their music in the game portion. Eventually we were able to successfully secure a contract with Sony.

Software Developer 1

  • The Billing Development team was split into two parts: New Initiatives, and Production Support. Because of my prior work as an Analyst for the team, I was recruited to lead the Production side of the Billing Development Team. In this role I helped triage production issues as they came in and prioritize corrections. I worked closely with business users impacted by production issues to achieve their buy in on proposed solutions, and performed code reviews and peer programming with the other production developers to ensure that our solutions worked as intended
  • This position was also the first time I lead a project from conception to implementation. I was the lead developer on a new Budget Billing and Estimation Service. This service was built in ASP.NET following object oriented principles and was my first deep dive into this type of design as the rest of the billing logic was in TSQL.

Application Analyst

  • I became an Application Analyst so that I could get closer to technology. An an Analyst on the Billing Operations team my primary responsibility was to ensure the quality of companies invoice generation system. Part of this QA was accomplished by analyzing the data produced by the system each day and checking for anomalies.
  • I was also responsible for analyzing, and creating, reports that checked the overall health of the system. If I identified any system issues I would work with the appropriate development team to design an appropriate technological solution, and validate its correction. If I identified issues in Business process that led to invoice errors I would do the same with specific business units within the company. Additionally, I was responsible for coordinating corrections with our external business partners if the error came from outside our system.
  • In order to preform this position I had to develop a strong TSQL skill set. This skill set helped me create custom reports, and allowed me to dig into the companies business logic which was primarily composed of SQL triggers, stored procedures, and functions. Because of the mentorship provided by the Billing Development team I was able to progress from reading and analyzing billing code, to implementing corrections in billing code.

Corporate Trainer

Jun 2006Sep 2007 · 1 yr 3 mos

  • As the Corporate Trainer my primary responsibility was to provide new hire training to Customer Service Representatives. This training consisted of in class lectures, and on the job training. When not training representatives I spent my time updating training materials, providing continuing education courses to representatives, and providing ad hoc training on new policy and procedure changes to the company at large.
  • Additionally I introduced a version of the Customer Service new hire training for our IT department, and introduced Moodle (an open source Learning Managing System) to the company. I hosted the site on a desktop computer under my desk and began providing computer based training. This allowed representatives to receive continuing education without having to leave their seat, and provided more transparency into the class room process to managers.
