From Sailor to COO | Building What Moves India - Sustainably Born and brought up in Mumbai, I joined the navy at 18 and boarded my first oil tanker ship from Dubai. Life at sea was tough - I’ve scrubbed toilets, swept floors, fought storms, and even had to hold guard when pirates circled off the coast of Somalia. With a multinational crew, no common language, and 12-hour shifts in the middle of nowhere, I learned humility, resilience, and how to earn trust without saying much. Those years shaped me more than any classroom ever could. Craving structure, I pursued a Master’s in International Logistics & Supply Chain from the University of Glamorgan, UK. When I returned to Mumbai in 2012, I had global exposure - but no local experience. I took up small jobs to stay afloat, until I worked my way into the textile industry. Six years later, I exited as VP – Global Sales & Operations, leading over 200 people and executing projects across continents. In 2019, I pivoted into logistics with India’s largest 3PL (₹3,800 Cr+ turnover). I took a position cut to enter a new industry - but quickly rose through the ranks. Despite the pandemic, I was promoted to lead a business unit in Hyderabad. With my dog, my red car, and big plans, I relocated mid-lockdown and built something meaningful (It was a risk - but growth rarely travels on smooth roads). Today, I live in Chennai as Chief Operating Officer at Refex Group, leading the charge in EV and Clean-based sustainable mobility. I still face pirates - just in boardrooms now. And instead of lifeboats, I manage dashboards. I’ve been on oceans and in ops rooms. And if there's one thing I know - where you start never defines how far you’ll go.
