About

Highly experienced data architect and ETL practitioner. Strong BI competency. I've worked over my career with a wide variety of data systems ranging from SQL Servers, Oracle, DB2 to more big data platforms such as Hadoop, Redshift, and BigQuery. I've been responsible for architecting data warehouses, rolling them out for mass consumption, and building the ETL/ELT frameworks to keep the DW's running like a well oiled machine. Some of the ETL frameworks were in low/no code such as SSIS AND informatica, while others required custom reusable scripts that were written in spark and Python. Additionally, I've worked with and managed several BI platforms including Tableau, Power BI, and QlikSense.

  • Built Financial Budgeting Models from the ground-up that plan over $1B of expense annually at very low levels of granularity. All models runs in Microsoft SQL Server, handle multiple data transformations of millions of rows, user input overrides, and smoothing of historical data to remove any noise or outliers. The models also have a simple user front end to allow for adjustments without the end-user needing to ever write a SQL statement. The models provide a full walk of the data from historicals to plan to help build credibility on the data, allow for easy research and variance explanation for P&L analysis. Models have provided new insights to business partners and are giving them actionable information to help them drive cost out.

Logistics Analyst

Oct 2010Apr 2012 · 1 yr 6 mos

  • Responsible for sourcing and developing the new distribution reporting SQL Server and cutting all daily processes down to simple and quick solutions.
  • When initially brought into the job, there were over 200 different spreadsheets, Access db's, emailed reports, and other various data feeds that were being maintained by the analysts on a daily basis. This issue would come to light daily if the analyst responsible for a report was out of the office because everything involved in their reports was custom to their desktop setup and could not run on another analyst's machine.
  • After only six months on the job and learning the business, I started work on creating and implementing a robust, searchable SQL Server database that would draw all the reporting source needs into one normalized, well constructed database that would automatically update and require no human intervention to push data. To do this, I had to learn SSIS on the job with only google as my teacher as well as work with 3rd party vendors to establish standards and protocols for how they delivered our data on a daily basis. Within 3 months after starting the single source endeavor, all data feeds were sourced into the sql server through SSIS, would automatically update, and required no human intervention (Data updates controlled solely by SQL job agent and FTP transfer).
  • I also re-engineered all the distribution Excel reports with my advanced vba skills to follow a specific structure and layout that anyone could learn quickly if necessary. These reports would pull from the newly constructed SQL Server via a view or a stored procedure. Once all the reports were re-designed, anyone on the reporting team would be able to run a report on demand within less than a minute and with no training needed. Before this change of the business, all reports required 4 to 5 analysts and a full 40 hours per week per analyst. Now, all reports can be ran by one analyst in less than 20 minutes.
