About

I'm a software engineer with a focus on the backend, automation, and infrastructure. And a keen spirit for writing code for humans & machines. With several years of professional experience, I've worked on a handful number of beautiful software with amazing technologies and team members across Europe, Asia, and North America. My primary tech stack includes PHP, Go, Laravel, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, and AWS. But I like to work with different technologies based on necessity. I like to explore tech and therefore I've worked with many other technologies including but not limited to Python, Rust, Kafka, GCP, gRPC, WebSockets, etc. I enjoy working with strictly typed languages and therefore Rust has become my favourite language to work with. But none less, I still love technology in general. Also, I enjoy architecting, everything from code to infrastructure. I like JavaScript when it doesn't exist in the project. This is my coding sandbox, where I tryout random tech: https://github.com/thearyanahmed/libsandbox I sometimes write on medium https://thearyanahmed.com/

  • My role sits at the intersection of reliability and product — keeping the platform healthy, extending what it can do, and making sure the complexity stays invisible to the people building on top of it.
  • Most of my feature work has been end-to-end — RFC through to public API, CLI, Terraform provider, documentation, and production monitoring.
  • Research and benchmarking of gVisor and Kata Containers for sandboxed runtime evaluation, including a deep investigation into NFS integration with gVisor — testing compatibility, identifying limitations, and producing findings that shaped the team's direction.
  • Contributed to Edge Controls — a configurable Cloudflare integration layer giving customers control over caching, DDoS protection, bot scoring, and SSE streaming, from design through Public Preview to GA. Also built exec-into-specific-instance across the full API and CLI surface, and fixed container registry selection bugs that could cause apps to silently deploy from the wrong source.
  • Handled a significant volume of SLO violations and on-call incidents — investigating root causes, writing postmortems, and closing the loop. The Trusted Sources surface — which governs app-to-database connectivity — required careful debugging across reconcilers and rollout sequencing.
  • Query optimisation across critical API paths on a deployments table with tens of millions of rows — reducing I/O, eliminating correlated subqueries, fixing a timestamp drift bug that widened scan windows. The improvements ranged from 51x to 291x faster, measured against production data.
  • Contributed features and fixes to doctl, godo, and the Terraform provider. More recently involved in App Platform's Model Context Protocol integration — covering architecture, observability, and testing.
