For a while, I could build things that worked. Features shipped. Demos ran. On the surface, everything looked fine. What I couldn’t always explain was why systems behaved the way they did once conditions changed. That gap bothered me. So I started moving away from just making things work and toward understanding how backend systems actually behave under load, with state, and when something fails. Right now, I’m building small backend systems to study the parts tutorials usually skip: request lifecycles, latency, failure modes, and how design decisions show up at scale. JavaScript is my entry point, not the destination. The focus is the system underneath. I learn by building first, watching what breaks, and tightening my understanding from there. I document mistakes and tradeoffs instead of optimizing for surface-level progress. I’m working toward backend roles where ownership, clarity of thinking, and system understanding matter more than checklists.
