Colin Summers — Design Manager
I design and architect scalable experiences that enable products, and the teams behind them, to operate with clarity, consistency, and speed. Across my work, I’ve led the transformation of fragmented, legacy design environments into centralised, reusable, and scalable design systems. By rebuilding core UI kits in Figma and establishing clear architectural foundations, contribution models, and governance patterns, I’ve enabled product teams to move faster, reduce redundancy, and collaborate more effectively across design and engineering. Experience and business outcomes: • Standardised patterns across product surfaces, creating a unified experience model across an entire product ecosystem. • Scaled and supported a design system serving ~10 teams, creating shared standards and significantly improving cross-team alignment and delivery speed. • Reduced cognitive load in data-dense financial reporting environments by restructuring information hierarchy and interaction patterns for high-value professional users. • Increased design system adoption by replacing legacy components with reusable, documented patterns aligned to engineering implementation. • Architected and implemented a scalable design token framework (color, typography, spacing etc), creating a single source of truth between design and engineering and enabling consistent theming and faster system-wide updates. • Improved design-to-development efficiency through components and scalable UI architecture, reducing rework and accelerating iteration cycles. • Established contribution workflows and documentation standards that improved consistency and reduced experience fragmentation across teams. • Enabled faster rollout of new features by embedding reusable patterns into the product foundation rather than solving problems repeatedly at a feature level. • Reduced long-term UX and technical debt by aligning design, product and engineering. I operate at the intersection of design, product, and code, ensuring that experience architecture supports both immediate delivery and long-term product evolution. Now, I’m actively looking to architect experience solutions for AI-enabled products. AI introduces new interaction models, adaptive behaviours, and decision-assisting interfaces that demand thoughtful system design. I’m particularly interested in shaping how AI capabilities are translated into intuitive, trustworthy, and scalable user experiences. Building frameworks that allow AI products to evolve without losing coherence. https://www.colinsummers.net/
