Mister spex

Software Engineer - Microfrontends

Nov 2019Dec 2020 · 1 yr 1 mo · Berlin

  • I joined Mister Spex as a Frontend Engineer at a point where the company was transitioning from a monolithic architecture powered by Java and third-party vendors to a distributed architecture in the direction of microservices and micro frontends.
  • Being picked as part of the “tiger” team architecting the migration to the new architecture my responsibilities involved a variety of tasks from system design, building proof of concepts, defining service boundaries, analyzing feasibility as well as production readiness and presenting our work in front of C level decision-makers and helping along with the company stakeholders around the new IT strategy.
  • I spent the first few months onboarding myself on our current infrastructure and soon started contributing to the definition of the future “architectural blueprint” guiding our tech efforts throughout all the stages of the software development life cycle (requirements definition, implementation, deployment and maintenance). During this time I also participated in buy/build decisions, analyzing 3rd party vendors for our storefront and CMS systems and architecture workshops.
  • Furthermore, I contributed as a “hands-on” member of our Scrum team in charge of bringing the first service to production in front of company-wide attention and tough deadlines. Of course, we achieved that and much more in record time and budget.
  • On this side, I spent my time training our software developers in the new JavaScript stack with different workshops on the topics of tooling, web performance and modern web development best practices. Always advocating for the state of the art technologies and building a culture of experimentation.
  • Areas of impact: Backend for Frontend, Microservices, Micro Frontends, REST APIs, Module Federation
  • Tech stack: Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Redux, Typescript, GraphQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS(EC2, S3, ECS, EKS), Docker, Nginx, Sentry, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence

Esmt berlin

Teaching Assistant, ESMT Berlin Coding Bootcamp

Sep 2019Mar 2020 · 6 mos · Berlin Area, Germany

  • After being a self-taught developer myself I know how hard it is to start in the software industry particularly when you don’t have a CS degree. As a side job, I decided to join the ESMT Berlin Coding Bootcamp and assist 11 fantastic students on their full-stack engineering track. With a 95% success rate, I was later offered an opportunity to continue as a full-time instructor quickly after.
  • This teaching experience was the spark that later on filled my mentoring activities and gave birth to what would later become CodeWithDragos. During this time I gave 70+ technical one-to-ones, code-reviews, and mentoring sessions and delivered over 5 masterclasses on web development fundamentals and software architecture.
  • In my mission of offering the best mentorship possible, I mixed theoretical foundations of software development with “learn by doing” demos and industry case studies. It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences in my whole career.
  • Receiving thank you emails in the middle of the night from students that, through your support, finally managed to solve that hard compiling error is priceless. It goes far beyond financial compensation or career advancement; it is a job well done.
  • I am immensely proud of our students and confident in their future success!

  • Beyond my contributions to our software systems, I helped scaling our team and overall tech hiring strategy. As one of the most seasoned developers in the engineering team I continuously advocated for software development best practices such as periodic code reviews, pair programming and knowledge sharing balancing code quality and delivery time.

  • I was hired to support migrating from a monolithic Java-based codebase to the modern MERN stack powered by Node.js and React. My contribution was successfully transitioning our frontend services to the contemporary stack by supporting existing users and avoiding a “big bang” scenario. That involved delivering full-stack features to 3 greenfield projects as well as solving defects and post-release patches.
  • During my time there, I was part of 45+ successful releases, ensuring the agreed SLA with our customers and successfully delivering on the migration of our stack. We successfully shipped pioneer features such as internationalisation and multi-brand product availability. During this time, I was collaborating in a cross-functional team of 7 following Agile methodologies.
  • Technologies: JavaScript, React.js, Redux, Typescript, GraphQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Nginx

Web Developer

Jul 2016Jun 2017 · 11 mos · Madrid und Umgebung, Spanien

  • In 2016 I decided to use my web development skills and my network and found a software development agency. It was my first attempt to build something in the IT industry and it culminated with successfully breaking even and a successive revenue growth. Our focus was small business owners and well known startups in the Madrid ecosystem.
  • We focused on the fullstack with a full range of development services including platforms like Shopify, Wordpress and Drupal. Being bootstrapped and offering basically undifferentiated software services we soon found ourselves a commodity in an already highly competitive market. After growing up to 15+ SME customers we decided to focus on the niche we could serve best and build a software product around that vertical.
  • As a founder I spend half of my time on idea validation and the other half on building our MVP using React.js, Node and Digital Ocean. I was also responsible for all the other parts that keep a company together such as hiring, partnerships and product strategy.
  • It has been one of the projects that impacted me the most both at a personal and professional level.

Anima ventures

Web Specialist

Sep 2015Jul 2016 · 10 mos · Madrid Area, Spain

  • At Anima, my role involved supporting incubated startups in various topics concerning mainly the intersection between web technology and digital marketing. I acted as a consultant for 7+ different ventures on the issues of SEO strategy. I served a hands-on role in the building, shipping, and delivering digital campaigns, from landing page development to tracking, integration, and testing.
  • Worth mentioning achievements are initiating the process of integrating analytics in our decision process through automating reporting with the use of different APIs and coordinating a small team delivering digital products. I was also reporting to C-level executives in other areas and helping with strategic technology decisions.
  • It all culminated with creating a joint venture between the primary holding company involving consulting services to 3rd parties. It was the stepping stone in the later founding of my own web consulting company and the first time I was aware of the power of software as a competitive advantage.
