About

I’m Erez Kikin-Gil, a design leader who believes simplicity is the most powerful form of sophistication. At Microsoft, I’ve led design across some of our most impactful products - Microsoft Copilot, Office Core UX, OneNote, Hotmail, Word, Sway, Microsoft Whiteboard, and Office Voice & Ink - transforming complexity into intuitive, human-centered experiences. My approach is grounded in reducing friction, amplifying clarity, and letting user intent lead the way. Simplicity isn’t just aesthetic - it’s strategic. It drives adoption, builds trust, and creates space for innovation. I work closely with C-suite leaders to shape product vision through storytelling - using walkthroughs, movies, and motion explorations to bring ideas to life and align teams around a shared future. These narratives are more than visualizations; they’re tools for focus, helping teams cut through noise and prioritize what matters. As a mentor and team builder, I lead with empathy, trust, and clarity. I see my role not just as a director of design, but as a cultivator of clarity - helping designers find their voice, sharpen their thinking, and elevate their craft. I invest deeply in mentorship, introspection, and team dynamics to build resilient, high-performing teams. Innovation is another cornerstone of my work. With over 70 patents, I’ve explored new frontiers in interaction, input, and intelligent assistance. But innovation, to me, isn’t about novelty—it’s a tool to help users in new and meaningful ways. Whether rethinking digital ink or designing voice-first experiences, I focus on how emerging technologies can simplify tasks, reduce cognitive load, and unlock new possibilities. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to simplicity - not as a constraint, but as a discipline. It’s how I design, how I lead, and how I help teams build products that truly resonate. When we remove the unnecessary, we make room for what really matters: clarity, connection, and impact.
