About

Distributed computing has been my primary area of focus since grad school. For the first decade of my career, I have been with industrial research labs where my work varied from academic publications to software infrastructure and open source. I have had the privilege of being part of the small group of people who brought open-source projects like Apache ZooKeeper and Apache BookKeeper to life. I currently focus entirely on building enterprise software and in particular, I am focusing on Data Management at Dell Technologies, including the development of open data lakehouses and edge streaming analytics technology (http://pravega.io).

Data lakehouses are becoming increasingly prevalent in the data infrastructure of companies of all sizes. Organizing data in a data lakehouse, regularly optimizing it and providing the tooling to observe the state of the data are crucial for production use, from both cost and performance perspectives. At Qbeast, we are developing essential technology to manage data in the data lakehouse.
In this role, I provide oversight for the technology choices, architecture and product roadmap. I additionally participate in research activities, internally and via collaborations, that influence the future product roadmap.

I lead the Pravega Engineering team. Pravega is storage for streams (http://pravega.io). It is an exciting project where we have challenged ourselves to design and develop a system that exposes streams as a core storage primitive. Our main goal has been to build on the knowledge of recent streaming technologies while leveraging the expertise and technology available at EMC to build a kick-ass system for data streaming pipelines. Pravega is at the core of Project Nautilus, a full-fledged platform for stream analytics.
