When COVID-19 forced education online, we saw traditional learning collapse. Google Meet lectures and WhatsApp assignments couldn't capture the magic of real classrooms - the energy, engagement, and immediate feedback were lost. Black boxes replaced engaged faces.
We built Edustage to bridge this gap using AI. Our novel algorithm computed Mean Engagement Score (MES) in real-time, analyzing facial landmarks and emotions to recreate classroom engagement digitally. Our research gained significant recognition in academic circles - we published our findings on deep learning applications for student engagement detection, which resonated widely with the research community. We open-sourced everything, believing educational technology advancement was bigger than any single company. The Government of Himachal Pradesh funded us under the CM's Startup Scheme and provided incubation at JUIT Solan.
But great technology doesn't automatically create great companies. Despite technical success and validated research, we struggled with business execution. We had vision but lacked experience. So we made the tough call - shut down Edustage. Each founder pursued different paths (higher studies, corporate roles) to learn how successful companies are actually built. It wasn't failure; it was education.
