• In 2024 dental tourism is a growing 7.7B market. I founded Global Dentist to provide a platform for dental tourism that would connect patients to affordable dental clinics abroad and streamline the organisation of dental holidays. We developed a modern platform consisting of the public facing website, clinic manager, hotel manager and several minor software tools. We established a network of 30 clinics and 24 hotels across Europe. We launched several online and offline campaigns.
• Unfortunately we run our of funds before generating enough revenue to sustain ourselves.

• Led the engineering department at RPS. Oversaw the transition from the legacy CMS systems to a new unified publishing platforms. Drastically simplified the new system architecture and streamlined the development process through agile practices leading to a twofold velocity improvement. Initiated the modernization of the legacy infrastructure reducing cost, improving performance and strengthening security and observability. Established processes for tighter cooperation between cloud and software engineering teams reducing pressure and morale of the teams. Managed suppliers and consultants. Managed some smaller projects proving they could be delivered at a fraction of the cost and time. Closely collaborated with CTO on defining strategy, budget and growth plan. Hired and trained my successor. Extinguished fires, avoided icebergs and met wonderful people.

• Alvie is a medical start-up in London that needed a temporary Head of Engineering. The company was facing difficulties with the outsourced development team, no test automation, a high rate of bugs and regular release delays. I defined the required structure of the teams, negotiated the master agreement with the new supplier, interviewed and selected candidates, changed the development process introducing new development, QA and release processes and new KPIs. Initially there was no CTO in the company, so I also drafted the growth plan and budget, along with the tech strategy reporting directly to the CEO.
• Thanks to the new QA process, the production bug rate was reduced by an order of magnitude. By introducing pair programming, I made sure that the handover between the old and new suppliers went smooth despite lack of documentation. I closely worked with developers to set up a plan to pay off the technical debt of the four projects. Introducing TDD made test coverage go from 0% to 30%. Best Devops Practices were implemented, like CI/CD, IaC, Sonar and health and performance monitoring with automated alarms.
• I recruited developers to grow the in house team and finally found a long term replacement for myself that would continue to lead the engineering department in the right direction.

• Several projects for a large financial bank regarding automated collection of architectural metadata of existing systems. Designed and implemented several static code analyzers to collect metadata about data flows and transformations in distributed systems.

• Worked under the ADAPT (Middleware Technologies for Adaptive and Composable Distributed Components) project. The project was funded by the EU (IST-2001-37126) and involved the participation of six major Universities and one Industrial partner (ARJUNA). My role was to perform research on EJB replication. The tangible results of this research are a family of replication protocols implemented in the JBoss application server.
