• Worked on the Analytics back-end team which handles the aggregation and storage of hundreds of clicks and submissions per second using technologies such as Apache HBase, Apache Hadoop, and Apache Kafka, and Amazon Redshift.
• Designed and constructed a long-term testing framework called "Spawning Pool" which simulates users clicking a specified flow of site pages in succession, using a task-queue system.
• Spawning Pool simulates realistic daily site traffic, then verifies that the traffic increments the appropriate counters in a complex Hadoop pipeline, using a daily cron job. It then reports back to the team if there is a discrepancy.
• Spawning Pool helped our team and the company notice and avoid multiple critical situations and catch long-term, difficult-to-fix bugs before they caused any residual damage. It continues to run today and provides otherwise elusive testing results.
• Converted sets of successive Hadoop jobs that processed site visits in 60 - 90 minutes into Kafka jobs processing data in 5 - 15 seconds, drastically reducing both customer wait time and the size of our codebase.
• Dumped large sets of data from both MySQL and HBase into Amazon Redshift using Hadoop in an ongoing process to migrate our APIs to faster and leaner data storage systems.
• Implemented RESTful API endpoints for both my testing framework and for the Amazon Redshift-backed APIs.
