About

I am a versatile thinker with a background in industrial & entertainment design. I have worked on an incredible breadth of projects in many industries, inhabiting many roles. During my seven years at Lightstorm Entertainment, I’ve worked as an Art Director on the Avatar Sequels laying the groundwork for the visual language of significant Na’vi architecture, environments, gargantuan sets & countless assets. I worked closely with Director James Cameron & Production Designers Dylan Cole & Ben Procter in setting the tone of pivotal moments in the films. I have personally created complex sets & assets for the Avatar films, packaging & delivering them to the virtual art department for transfer into the volume where they would be arranged into digital sets for virtual camera shoots with actors using performance capture. I worked closely with 3D artists to ensure all sets & assets were translated faithfully within the technical limitations of the proprietary software used by our production & Weta Digital. As a concept artist & businessperson on high profile projects for nearly two decades to clients such as Disney, Marvel, Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Netflix, Lucasfilm, Riot, Square Enix, Northrop Grumman & many others, I’ve pitched, secured, scheduled & led phased projects, working with artists of different disciplines to deliver high quality work including finished vfx shots. I’ve read scripts & broken them down into their constituent parts in order to help to itemize these creative works into digestible, actionable tasks. Moreover, I’m passionate about stories & have done a lot of writing of my own & so deeply appreciate the significance of meaning, character, symbolism & the geometry of plot creation. I have also contributed work extensively in the advertising, aerospace & theme park industries. I’ve hired & led teams of artists in exploring & targeting visual language in order to establish the visual framework for projects. I’ve pushed young artists to the edge of their comfort zone & beyond with care, while inspiring them to let go of their perceived limitations and find new ways of problem solving. I’ve imparted them with new techniques in image creation, design thinking & visual storytelling. I am an empathetic leader and understand the value of helping others grow and advance in their own lives. I value compassion when it comes to how I treat others & expect to be treated. These days, I’m as interested in who I’m working with as I am in what it is I’m doing. Life is short and I enjoy spending time working alongside good, human people.
