• The IAPP is the largest and most important privacy association, with over 60,000 members world-wide. I'm the IAPP's country leader in Canada and in this role I provide strategic advice on supporting and growing the privacy industry in Canada. I also deliver CIPP/C training. • In 2007, I launched my own firm to provide advice, training and legal support to public, private and non-profit clients in Canada and abroad on privacy, access to information and information security. The firm grew, becoming nNovation LLP. Great partners and colleagues and privacy leaders have since come on board, bolstering our expertise.

• Intro to Canadian law, policies, practice and current issues related to the protection of personal information. Focus on federal, provincial and foreign privacy laws, and the Charter. Analysis of policy choices to mediate privacy interests of various stakeholders (state, individual, private sector). Study of theoretical and practical privacy problems.

Jan 2006 – Jan 2007 · 1 yr

• In this role, I advised the Privacy Commissioner and senior officials on legal, policy and strategic issues, including on the handling of high-profile and sensitive cases. I negotiated and settled complaints with private sector organizations facing scrutiny over privacy compliance issues. I also represented the Commissioner and the office publicly before Parliamentary committees, as a conference speaker, and before the media.

Jan 2002 – Jan 2006 · 4 yrs

• As a Justice Canada lawyer, I advised on and litigated various complex privacy and access matters. In this role I handled ATI and privacy matters for the Privy Council Office (PCO). I worked on the development of the government's new privacy impact assessment (PIA) policy at the time, and then subsequently providing advice on government PIAs.
