Around 2000, I was sent into the unknown – for me, at least – to South Africa to set up a new business for a major utility company. The experience changed my approach to life as much as it did my approach to work, and it gave me the confidence to take on any challenge set before me. This fearlessness has been critical during the ambitious transformation Oracle is undertaking, and there are similar opportunities on offer here now for the team. Here in Spain, as in the rest of the world, the company is on a journey to the number one spot in cloud technology and the people taking us there – both customers and staff – are bursting with talent, energy and ideas. Much like my time in South Africa, this has been a challenging process, but Oracle Spain now has a team capable of remarkable levels of innovation. There is no other team like the one we have here. Success of the team and the individual is a way of life at Oracle, and the numbers speak for themselves: we have increased all of our KPIs by 15-20%. But we still want more. Here, we work every day to unlock hidden value by empowering our customers to transform their business and we’re proud to grow with them. Outside of work, I’m a keen long-distance swimmer, revelling at the chance to challenge myself to go a bit further each time. It’s a quality I look for in my team too, both professionally and personally. Over my career I’ve learned to expect the unexpected.
