Tech lead for MySQL engineering

  • My focus is transaction processing and storage efficiency. My team supports large, sharded DBMS clusters that exceed 100M queries and disk reads per second. We continue to make MySQL much better. We have started to do the same for MongoDB and RocksDB, a write-optimized database engine. Our innovation with MySQL includes InnoDB compression for OLTP, replication prefetch, online schema change, group commit and online defragmentation. We continue the tradition with work-in-progress on DocStore and MyRocks.

  • We made MySQL much better for a very large and sharded MySQL cluster. Some of the features that we did first and ran at web scale include semi-sync replication, global transaction IDs, scalable read-write lock for InnoDB, user & table statistics, crash safe replication and roles.
