Techstrata

Solutions Architect

Mar 2013Sep 2014 · 1 yr 6 mos · Santa Barbara, California Area

  • I designed and incorporated the latest technologies for existing and new network topologies. Techstrata is at the forefront of these services and I was proud to be apart of this team! For me, the customer needs to have an immediate cost benefit to implementing new technology. At the same time, I map out further long term savings based on a client's trending needs in the next 5 to 10 years.
  • I work closely with the client and deliver top solutions using my 15 years working at all levels within IT Operations. From Helpdesk to Administration, I can streamline and find that perfect solution because I did that job and I have worked with many different professionals. That's my joy. Learning about new companies, how they use technology and how I can help improve the organization is what makes my day.
  • I provided on call support as well as after hours support for 343 Extreme Switches [Black Diamond 8810, extended X450e(p), X460(p)], for a client who is a large health care facility located in Santa Barbara, California. I also supported Meru Networks 4100 and 4200 Controllers along with 320i and 332i Access Points in addition to IT Auditing and Remediation projects.

  • Spent four years developing an advanced form of methane digestor. This new concept focuses on ways to conserve the environment while maintaining profitability.
  • I am very proud of this concept and I'm looking for interested professionals to create a new project on testing and building them. Again, another pitch for 'zero waste'. I am really serious about this new way of generating energy. I have been working on this concept since 2009.
  • The inspiration actually came from a conversation with my Pre-Calc partner named Brian. He told me he ran a business reclaiming dog waste for cities and converting them to gas and sludge. After researching John L. Fry's book, I realized my technical experience and knowledge of basic force conversions revealed a way to sustain this apparatus and produce high quality fertilizer as well as provide ample supplies of methane gas. Later, a local ranching community had too much horse waste in the water supply. I spoke with the Ventura Watershed Protection District. They were elated to hear there is an exciting solution and promised to provide funding for my device or similar apparatuses. Turns out, the rancher's didn't do it because they feared it would cost too much. Sadly, nothing came of it except I learned how to speak in front of total strangers on the value of Alternative Energy. I know we as a society CAN be zero waste...it's a matter of time before it's socially accepted. Will it be today? Tomorrow? I don't know.

  • Maintain all Back Office Operations. Assist in hardware and software repairs and upgrades.
  • Secure Network access through four levels of content filtering and policies.
  • Report to District Supervisors and assist in coordinating new technologies for students as well as staff.
  • Attended meetings with the Ventura County Office of Education to get the latest news and tips on new devices and services. These are aimed to protect student information according to the guidelines of the Student Information Protection Act (SIPAA) as well as coordinate upgrades to network infrastructure. I made recommendations to move the wifi antenna that was dangerous to maintain to a more accessible and safe location. I also helped design the IP address scheme according to geographic locations throughout the network as well as quickly identify the type of device and device itself using the IPv4 variable subnet masks. Meaning, I don't need to resolve the name of the device to know exactly where it is.

  • Maintained and ran backups on an IBM AS/400 820. Created and handled print queues, setup users, monitored joblogs and reported system usage statistics.
  • Provisioned new technologies such as the level one MPLS network through new service provider. Saved employer $290,000 on three year contract and improved network performance.
  • Handled all problems with printers, computers, routers and cabling.
  • Maintained company's website certificates and negotiated all IT related contracts.
  • Norman Karlson was an inspiration to work with. He knew the history behind every tile he reclaimed. He even gave me a tile from the Lisbon earthquake that ruined a once great and illustrious empire. Holding this tile in my hands helped me to connect to a time that was and never will be. He connected me to my ancient ancestors and made me realize how special I am in the face of all this modern morass of relative morality.

  • I got my first exposure to the AS/400 by monitoring print queues and job logs.
  • I polled 400 stores in the morning. The ones that did not report back, I needed to troubleshoot and replace the computers as needed.
  • This was a great entry level position to supporting end users and their desktops in a corporate environment.
  • Leslie's Pools and Supplies was my first exposure to a great work environment. I used to poll the machines at 5 in the morning and then go work out in their full work out and shower facility. When I was done working out, I would check the stores that did not respond and spend the next 2 hours every day troubleshooting and building replacement servers. It was a shame they relocated to Arizona.

  • My first Tier 1 Support job! Spent three weeks by the illustrious AT&T "Worldnet" support staff to perform the following:
  • 1. Listen to the customer.
  • 2. Qualify their needs
  • 3. Search available knowledge base.
  • 4. Propose implementation of article.
  • 5. Ensure customer is happy.
  • 6. Write up "How-To" articles.
  • 7. Mentor new tech support on "Best Practices"
  • Gained valuable experience working with many different people. I personally believe I worked with someone who used this experience for the movie "Office Space". Only, instead of a real fire, the fire alarm was pulled because an agent was tired of being on the phones all day.
