As an elected Legislator, I again follow in the footsteps of my grandfather - Member (and till elevation as a Minister in 1930, the Whip of the Justice Party) of the First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Legislative Councils of the Madras Presidency under Diarchy (1921 to 1937), and after Independence, the First Legislative Assembly of Madras State (1952-1957) and the second Legislative Council of Madras State (1957 - 1962). And of my father - Member of the Fourth (1967-1971), Fifth (1971-1976), Eleventh (1996-2001), and Thirteenth (2006 - till his passing) Legislative Assemblies of Tamil Nadu, and Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council (1984 - 1986). In addition, my father served with distinction as the Speaker of the Eleventh Legislative Assembly (1996-2001), setting standards for Neutrality.
