  • The story of the world’s largest Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad has no doubt several role players. Shri Parimal Nathwani is one important among them as the then Vice President of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA).
  • Cricket is an all time first love for him. It was this craze for cricket that he grabbed an opportunity in 2008-09 to join Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) executive committee and became the Vice President.
  • Initially he was actively involved in promoting cricket at grassroots in Gujarat under CBCA, the offshoot of GCA to nurture younger talents. He played an active role in organizing international matches at GCA’s Motera stadium as per BCCI’s programs. He was also a member of BCCI’s Tour & Program Committee.
  • The GCA president then was none other than the Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi. After few years, Another stalwart Shri Amit Shah took over as President, GCA. Thereafter Shri Nathwani, was in front line to look after affairs of GCA. The Motera Stadium, which had already witnessed profound cricketing for about 25 years, needed hauling and upgrading. After prolonged deliberations, it was decided to build it anew.
  • It was a challenge to mobilize resources, meticulous project planning, matching the international standards, transparency in dealings. Shri Parimal Nathwani, under close guidance of Shri Amit Shah, shaped up Shri Narendra Modi’s dream on the ground. By the time, he had to relinquish his position as the Vice President of GCA in accordance with the Lodha Committee’s directives, the World’s Largest Cricket Stadium with more than 1,00,000 capacity was a prestigious addition to the glorious city of Ahmedabad.
  • It was indeed a delight to eyes when Shri Parimal Nathwani saw the culmination of his endeavours from the front line of Namaste Trump in February 2020.

Vice Chairman

Jan 1999Aug 2016 · 17 yrs 7 mos · Devbhumi Dwarka, Gujarat, India

  • Shri Parimal Nathwani took up responsibilities to develop Dwarka, the ancient capital town of Lord Krishna. Both RIL and the then Government of Gujarat were equally interested in developing infrastructure for pilgrims in Dwarka, a part of Jamnagar district at that time. Government of Gujarat's approach for development of Dwarka under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) suited RIL’s principles of good corporate citizenship.
  • Dwarka Devasthan Samiti came into being around the dawn of the new millennium. With Jamnagar District Collector as ex-officio Chairman, local representatives of priests and devotees of Lord Krishna were part of the Samiti. With the reorganization of districts in Gujarat, Devbhoomi Dwarka district was carved out of Jamnagar district on 15th August 2013.
  • Shri Parimal Nathwani, who was also heading CSR activities of RIL, focused on improving and creating infrastructure in Dwarka town. In a major facility improvement program, a pilgrimage pathway and steps on the bank of the river Gomati were smoothed and redone in 2002 by fixing new stones.
  • In another major infrastructure push, a new road named Dhirubhai Hirachand Ambani Marg was constructed. Built by filling and solidifying the marshy land along the rivulet, the road leads directly to the Dwarkadheesh temple thereby avoiding narrow lanes and streets of the town.
  • RIL also constructed ‘Kokila Dhiraj Dham’ which provide serene accommodation to the pilgrims. For devotees of Pushtimaarg, construction of village infrastructure viz. CC roads, community halls, aangan wadi etc. has been done in villages where Maha Prabhuji had visited and established seats.
  • In a breakthrough development of Dwarka, a state of the art hanging bridge is constructed to crossover the river Gomati. The bridge is named as 'Sudama Setu'. Although, Shri Parimal Nathwani had ended his term by then, his son Shri Dhanraj Nathwani and RIL are continuing the work for Dwarka and Dwarkadheesh in the same spirit and the devotion.
