• I started my work with optimizing database queries in PostgreSQL where I often used materialized views to reduce the latency from several to a few minutes. I worked on Java Spring Boot, microservice architecture, Linux commands, iBatis (ORM) and the Sisense BI tool. I learned how to optimize database queries, design database schema using data warehouse techniques, created several REST APIs for interprocess communication between application, microservice, and Sisense, implemented several features, used port forwarding techniques in Kubernetes to redirect the MongoDB hosted on Linux to that on Windows, and wrote unit test cases using JUnit and Mockito. Working on a wide variety of projects at this startup with a fast-paced culture has enabled me to hone my software development skills and learn to pick up new technologies quickly.

• I was a part of a 21-day summer workshop by ACM on graph theory and graph algorithms held at IIT Gandhinagar. This got me interested in parameterized algorithms and I emailed the particular Professor, who was the organizer to delve deeper into the topic. She invited me to join a reading group on the topic with 2 graduate students. We would meet every week and present, discuss, and solve complex problems, guided by our mentor. This was a valuable experience because apart from acquiring a deeper understanding of parameterized complexity and algorithms, it taught me how to go about learning about a topic outside of the classroom. I learned how to collaborate with my peers to gain an understanding of a difficult problem and think outside of the box to solve it, a skill that has helped me a lot even beyond solving theoretical computer science problems.

I was able to convince nearly half of the villages that I had targetted.
