About

I’m a staff software engineer and technical leader with a keen focus on learning and improving in every aspect of software design and development methodology. I like building and leading teams to realize their full potential and productivity. I thoroughly enjoy coding and view myself as a generalist software engineer capable of quickly learning any domain/language/tool I need. Blog: https://isagi.in/blog/ Twitter: https://x.com/s7rthaks Codeforces: https://codeforces.com/profile/love_kotori entangleDB: https://github.com/TypicalDefender/entangleDB I have worked on AWS Cloud with various services ranging from S3, EC2, ECS, EKS, SNS, SQS, AWS Networking, EBS, ElastiCache, CloudWatch, RDS, and many more. I have worked extensively on message broker systems like Kafka, databases like MongoDB, Postgres, and MySQL, and workflow orchestration tools like Temporal. I was one of the founding contributors to Vedantu's in-house video engine powering their live classes. I was the sole developer responsible for building their VQuiz product backend from ground up! I am proficient in TypeScript, Go, and Java and have written complete systems from the ground up that are impacting the lives of millions of people, which might include you.

Software Engineer - Core Foundation Platform Services

Mar 2025Sep 2025 · 6 mos · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

  • I officially became a lead to build some of the platform services as part of our foundational services initiatives. I am leading a team with some of the smartest engineers to build foundation capabilities that help Rippling move faster.
  • tldr: If you want to know my Rippling experience, I would say this is one of the companies that everyone should experience working at, specifically in the platform team (the bar is high there). I left because of the opportunity I got at this moment that felt like the right option at the moment in the direction where I am heading. Rippling has a great engineering culture, specifically in the platform team. Can't wait to see Rippling thriving even more!

Software Engineer - Data Globalization

Nov 2024Feb 2025 · 3 mos · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

  • As part of our globalisation platform initiative, we took on a major challenge:
  • To make our GDPR/Compliance platform pipelines scalable to 10 million+ object deletions to ensure we stay compliant with respect to our customers' data storage regulations.
  • To make our database translation, a.k.a. translation platform, support dynamic translations for multiple languages across the globe to help Rippling go global.

Software Engineer - Dependency Tracking

Jul 2024Nov 2024 · 4 mos · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

  • Dependency Tracking is a core system in Unity. Its job is to make sure that all of our customer defined rules (e.g. Supergroups, Workflows, and Formula Fields) are kept up to date (by triggering “refreshes” on the rules) as relevant data changes in our system. e.g. if I have a group defined for all managers, whenever a person becomes a manager, they need to be added to that group.
  • While a real time refresh is desired but is not practical and very expensive, teams can define an acceptable consistency delay. This acceptable consistency delay allows DT to perform various optimisations like grouping, deduplication etc. to avoid choking the compute and data infrastructure. This handles millions and millions of events everyday to ensure we keep data/triggers in sync according to the customer defined rule's objective.
  • Building the foundational platform for supporting dozens of vertical applications as part of Rippling's compound startup strategy.
  • Realtime OLAP, Streaming Ingestion, Query Engine, Document Database, Apache flink, Kafka, Debezium

  • Technical Influence across the tech org
  • Fundamentally formed teams and services for the banking vertical.
  • Fundamentally designed workflows and activities, introduced Temporal inside the tech organization.
  • Conceptualized how transactions would be processed, understood the internals of how different components communicate with each other, and stitched those parts together in the design to formulate a transaction engine.
  • Actively contributed to setting standards in design discussions and code reviews.
  • Built an AI-driven code reviewer powered by GPT-4 and a PR summary powered by GPT-3.5, helping identify many teething issues without manual human intervention, saving review time.
  • Evangelized the integration of local LLMs into the IDE for faster offline code suggestions.
  • Conducted sessions on how to generate test cases using GitHub Copilot and leverage GPT effectively within the organization.
  • Extensively participated in hiring for Engineering Manager, Staff Engineer, and SDE 3 positions.

  • Drove the revamp of our CI/CD pipelines across the organization of more than 250+ engineers (enhanced developer experience, faster revert pipelines, and guidelines across teams for deploying and managing their services)
  • Drove the migration of our workload from ECS to K8s from a developer's point of view, making the migration simpler for developers (most of the time acted as a dev-rel for developers for this migration)
  • Standardized the Docker images across the organization (optimization for faster and secure builds)
  • Built and led the personal loan onboarding product end-to-end
  • Set the direction and best practices for our MongoDB to PostgreSQL migration initiative within our team (we broke things and learned along the way)
  • Drove the Copilot adoption across the organization

Engineering Lead - Quiz Platform

Dec 2021Jun 2022 · 6 mos · Bangalore Urban, Karnataka, India

  • Built the real time leaderboard for the real time quiz product with 1 million DAU
  • Built a real-time backend service (https://www.vedantu.com/vquiz) from scratch powering our live quizzes, and handled the backend delivery end to end. Thousands of concurrent traffic come to our platform through youtube.
  • Migrated microservices from using Kafka to AWS SQS and simplifying the overall messaging architecture.
  • Have good exposure in working with the monitoring systems like, Prometheus, Thanos etc.
  • Implemented VPC Peering on new Mongo clusters
  • Worked on integrating custom mongo CDC events with Kafka using exactly-once delivery semantics
  • Set up autoscaling of our redis clusters (helped us save unnecessary cost during non-peak hours)
  • Built a service level rate limiter middleware getting used in two primary backend services saved us from unexpected traffic from the same client.
  • Rightsizing our primary backend cluster with the correct autoscaling mechanism and proper use of warm pools helped us reduce ~25% monthly aws bills.
  • Reduced our docker image size by around ~28%
  • Moved one of our core backend services to take advantage of Kubernetes -- served public APIs through our customised API gateway
  • Worked on real-time alerting system with slack
  • Advocated for improvements to product quality, security, and performance

Apr 2021Dec 2021 · 8 mos · Bangalore Urban, Karnataka, India

  • Led the migration to stable & mature CI/CD, infrastructure, and observability practices on AWS & Kubernetes
  • Deprecated one service (legacy), removed all dependency to move to one single service helped us decomissioned infra for that service and made it simpler for operating going forward.
  • Designed the Logging platform and pipelines with Kafka as a buffer
  • Scaled and reduced more than $150k per year savings. (https://www.sarthakd.com/blogs/service-improvements-at-vedantu-saved-us-cost)
  • migrated a legacy service it to all the way which resulted in ~34% cost reduction and better performance
  • Wrote the backend for collaborative assignment system where teacher and student can collaborate on a board (Portal)

  • Scaled the Video conversion platform fully moved to
  • EKS environment in an automated manner.
  • Worked on user retention (Progress Bar and Early Joining)
  • Optimised storage tiers to take advantage of low-cost consumption
  • Worked on service level infra set up automation which results in onboarding/spawning new environment-related resources in seconds instead of hours (SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Elasticache).
