About

I build certifiable aircraft systems! I am the Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at Sarla Aviation, where I lead technology and product innovation for India’s emerging urban air mobility ecosystem. My work spans aircraft-level systems, software, and certification-driven development, with a focus on turning ambitious eVTOL concepts into real, manufacturable, and safe aircraft. I currently spearhead the development of Shunya, a six-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed for urban operations. Before founding Sarla Aviation, I worked at Joby Aviation as an Embedded Software Engineer on production-intent Battery Management Systems for a manned eVTOL aircraft. I was part of a small, highly experienced engineering team with backgrounds from early Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and leading deep-tech startups. My work covered the full embedded stack, from high-level hardware and software requirements to low-level firmware development for certifiable sensors and ICs, application-layer software, and proprietary SPI and I2C communication stacks. I also served as a critical interface between firmware and FPGA teams to ensure correct end-to-end system behavior. Prior to my departure, my name was placed on the first aircraft manufactured and rolled out of Joby’s production facility as part of the U.S. Air Force’s 10-aircraft program. That remains the most meaningful professional recognition of my career, because it represents real engineering delivered under real certification and operational constraints. At Sarla Aviation, I apply these lessons daily. I believe manned aviation demands discipline, traceability, and respect for safety standards, not development shortcuts. My focus is on building teams, systems, and cultures that can withstand certification scrutiny and scale into commercial reality. I hold a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from San José State University and work at the intersection of embedded systems, aerospace engineering, and long-horizon technology strategy.

  • Led strategic technology and product innovation for India’s urban air mobility company, driving next-generation eVTOL aircraft and aerospace systems from concept toward certification and commercial operations.
  • Owned the long-term technical roadmap, technology conceptualization, key partnerships, and translation of high-level vision into real-world execution.
  • Strategized innovation for Shunya, a six-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed to reduce urban congestion and emissions. Prototype unveiled and publicly demonstrated at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
  • Directed core systems development and validation, advancing from clean-sheet concept to ground testing of a ~680 kg half-scale eVTOL demonstrator (SYLLA SYL-X1) spanning avionics, flight computers, propulsion systems, battery and BMS, flight controls, ground station, data visualization, and ground control systems, a rare milestone for an Indian aerospace startup.
  • Built and scaled interdisciplinary teams across avionics, flight software, electrical systems, battery technology, propulsion integration, and testing, growing the organization from zero employees into a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Established a resilient supplier ecosystem across Indian and global manufacturers.
  • Laid the foundation for strong data ownership through centralized, data-governed development workflows supporting traceability and certification-oriented engineering.
  • Capital strategy and investor engagement, contributing to multiple funding rounds, including a Series A1 led by Accel and Nikhil Kamath, securing approximately USD 13M for R&D, prototyping, and infrastructure growth.
  • Operated with a strong belief in aviation standards, certification pathways, and disciplined systems engineering used in manned aircraft design, not garage-style development. Focused on innovation that improves safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • Worked on production-intent, certifiable Battery Management Systems for a manned eVTOL aircraft, contributing across the full embedded stack in an aviation-grade development environment.
  • Part of a small, high-caliber BMS engineering team with prior experience from early Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and leading deep-tech startups, focused on taking battery systems toward production certification.
  • Owned embedded software development for BMS components intended for certification, spanning requirements definition, firmware architecture, and implementation.
  • Translated aircraft-level and system-level hardware and software requirements into detailed low-level requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with certification expectations.
  • Developed application-layer software and low-level firmware for new, certifiable sensors and ICs used within the BMS, emphasizing deterministic behavior, fault detection, and robustness.
  • Led firmware development for Joby’s proprietary SPI and I2C communication stacks, designed for reliability, performance, and tight integration with custom hardware.
  • Served as a key technical interface between firmware and FPGA teams, ensuring correct end-to-end behavior and timing alignment between FPGA logic and embedded software.
  • Actively involved in integration, debugging, and validation of BMS firmware across hardware revisions, supporting SIL and HIL-style testing and system bring-up.
  • My name was placed along with everyone who worked on the first aircraft manufactured and rolled out of Joby Aviation’s production facility as part of the U.S. Air Force multi-aircraft delivery program, a milestone that remains the most meaningful professional recognition of my engineering contribution to date.
