Shorya Consul — AI Researcher
How would I describe myself succintly? A problem-solver at heart, an engineer by trade. Some background: I grew up gorging on books and documentaries. This might sound odd but it's true; my birthday present for my ninth birthday were three encyclopedias and soon after, the only non-news channels we had were National Geographic, Animal Planet and Discovery. So, it should come as no surprise that I have long held a deep interest in the manifestation of Science in Nature; for this reason, Physics and Biology in particular have always fascinated me. What I do: I work at the intersection of electrical engineering/computer science and bioinformatics. Specifically, my focus lies in the development of algorithms for inference from genomic datasets, such as DNA sequencing read mixtures. Of late, the algorithmic frameworks I have designed employ the latest developments in the burgeoning field of machine/deep learning. More generally, I am interested in applying the skills as an engineer and researcher in solving real-world problems, so that I can make a tangible impact with my work. Outside of work, I love to read novels (fantasy, mystery and sci-fi being my go-to genres), hike or play ultimate frisbee and tennis.
