5 years ago, I had organised a beach clean-up drive where I found a chocolate wrapper. It looked shiny and new, but it was actually from a company that went out of business in 1992. In that moment, I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to solving the global sustainability crisis. The human race produces 300,000,000,000 kilograms of plastic waste every year, half of which is single-use items. Other than becoming omnipresent garbage, every item making up this waste breaks down into microplastics over the next 400 years, entering our food chains and damaging ecosystems. But I don’t need to tell you that. All you need to do is visit your nearest beach to see the effect. I got together with my co-founders Akshay and Anuj to create Beco — where we create eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products that are accessible to all.
