• NLP Scientist - Created the science team for Neural Search at HuggingFace from scratch. Development of cutting edge neural models and training procedures for Information Retrieval / Semantic Text Search, used by thousands of developers.
• Achievements:
• Collecting the by far largest open training set with 1B+ training pairs for retrieval models & train the best embedding model that existed so far (10M+ monthly downloads on the HF hub)
• Development of BEIR - The standard to evaluate zero-shot information retrieval models
• Development of TSDAE (state-of-the-art pre-training method for Neural Search) and GPL (domain adaptation technique for search models)
• Leading the BigScience team of retrieval for Large Language Models - Evaluating how retrieval can help billion-scale language models to generate better text.

• Doctoral Researcher at UKP in Darmstadt. My research is centered around Deep Learning and how those techniques can be applied to text. My research contributions are in the fields of the correct evaluation of deep neural networks, designing state-of-the-art methods for information extraction from text, and detecting & aggregating events from news articles.
