Sharmistha Gupta — Operations Associate
I currently work at Unilever as a Strategic Programs Manager for the India procurement division. What that really means is that I help drive some of the most critical procurement programs across all business groups and buying portfolios (raw materials, packaging materials, contract manufacturing, Indirects and Logistics). I connect the dots, bring people together, and make sure decisions get made with clarity and speed. The initiatives I lead span across a wide spectrum including GM improvement, supplier resilience, sustainability, strategic partnerships, and other long-term bets. At the core of it, my job is to hold together the continuously evolving India procurement strategy and make sure it stays future-ready and firmly connected to what the business needs most. Before HUL, I spent time in the consulting domain leading transformation projects across industries. That phase shaped how I think: learning to simplify complex problems, work in ambiguity, manage C-suite level stakeholders, and stay outcome-focused even when the path isn’t clear. It taught me to zoom in when needed, zoom out when it matters, and most of all keep moving ahead. By nature, I’m someone who’s process-driven, sharp, and focused on outcomes. I’ve also learned that results are rarely linear and whether you’re winning or not, you’ve got to keep showing up and keep playing your shots. I think that good results are rarely a stroke of luck. They are a product of rhythm, habits, and doing the right things even when it’s tough. That mindset has carried me through complex transformation projects during my consulting years, and it continues to guide me today. As Dory used to say, “Just keep swimming.” That little line from Finding Nemo has stuck with me for years. Because real work, the kind that matters, isn’t always glamorous. It’s messy, unpredictable, sometimes slow. But you keep at it. That’s where the magic happens. 1% inspiration. 99% perspiration. :) Outside of work, I live in Mumbai, love reading (anything from business to fiction), and am a big Bollywood fan who knows random trivia no one asks for. I also find joy in escaping to the mountains whenever I can! If I had to sum myself up: I’m the person you can count on when things get complex. I bring people together, cut through noise, and get the job done with heart and with clarity. If you want to discuss careers - reach out to me at sharmisthagupta1092@gmail.com
