I worked in the Processor and Wireless Infrastructure division of the Infrastructure and Networking Group. The division is responsible for delivering software for the XLP multicore processor with multiple hardware accelerators/ASICs. I am part of a team that is responsible for developing and maintaining software for a pattern matching ASIC.
Contributed to the development of a regular expression compiler targeting the pattern matching ASIC and a software model of an ASIC, as required.
Single handedly developed an autonomous test tool to generate complex randomised regular expressions along with matching data embedded in random bytes, and the set of expected matches. This tool was integrated with a testing framework that would accept the generated tests and run them on the actual hardware or on the software model to yield results.
Contributed to the development of the next version of the testing framework to extend the kind of tests that could be expressed and to show better performance.
To target the XLP processor for the storage related industry, I worked on identifying and reading up on the important software stacks used in network based storage (iSCSI SANs and the Ceph system). It included identifying dependencies and finding workarounds for bugs in the network driver to get the system running, and finally running I/O load (using tools like IOMeter, dd and fio) to benchmark the performance in terms of throughput and IOPS.
(All the above projects/tools were developed in C on Linux)
