Kyle Haire — Head of Growth
Author Jim Collins talks about the people, thought and actions required of organizations and teams that can enable them to go from “Good to Great.” Discipline, complete focus and an understanding of people, data and the environment are the righteous tenants of this organizational leadership principle. In my world, I drive the bus, so that we can all reach our destination. My word is my bond. Because when it matters the most, in the most challenging, dire and dangerous of circumstances, when you give your word to someone that you are going to do something, they know that you will accomplish what you have promised. It provides them calm, a feeling of tranquility, and the emotional connection that only a team can forge. Recently, after working through an issue of honesty with my youngest son, I told him, “Our word is our gift. It is the hallmark of our brand. It is the product of generations of trials and tribulations tested each and every day.” He simply responded with, “I won’t let you down, Dad.” I smiled, walked away, and muttered to myself, “I know you won’t, son.” Positivity, dignity and respect are pillars of a true professional. The part that most people fail to understand is that they are earned and given every day, in every encounter you ever have. As a young, wide-eyed teenager, I failed to understand this basic principle, emulating poor leadership traits I had witnessed in my early professional development. It took me only a matter of weeks in the real world to realize what was valid and what was not. People and our team are the most valuable resource any organization will ever have. I believe to the depths of my soul that predictability generates tempo, and that tempo can generate momentum. In the Marine Corps momentum generates combat power, but in business this generates a bottom line. It is this basic concept that Jim Collins calls the breakthrough moment. The pivotal moment when the right people, with the right guidance, founded in the right core values, given the appropriate latitude and freedom of action, take their organization and mission from Good to Great. I am never satisfied with the status quo.
