Desmond Cheong — Software Engineer
Numbers. Dates. Short strings. Structs. (And timestamps, arrays, maps, etc). Long ago, the simple data types lived together in harmony in our business intelligence systems. Then, everything changed when the ML wave attacked. Only declarative queries, master of all data operations, could maintain expressiveness and performance. But when model trainers needed them most, they vanished. A decade passed and our distributed systems discovered new requirements: unstructured data and multimodality. And although our cloud platforms are scalable, they have a lot to learn before they're ready to process large and complex data types efficiently (and without OOMing). But I believe Daft can save our workloads. More details about my work and experiences can be found at desmondcheong.com
