I previously built Stripe's European payments team, served as European CIO, and led a 100+ person engineering team operating 40+ global payment systems processing $100bn+ each year. I've served on the market advisory groups for both the European Central Bank and Bank of England designing the region's central bank digital currencies (CBDC). I've built and operated AI systems at scale for over a decade. As CTO of Algolia, I led 150+ engineers building the world's first scalable hybrid LLM search engine, processing 2 trillion queries annually. At Zalando I led 200 engineers creating AI search, recommendations and personalisation for 50m+ customers, and at Google X helped develop the world's first commercial drone delivery system. I founded three startups in the early 2000s, including Masabi, which is now the world's leading mobile train ticket operator. I've served on the board of startups like Manna Drone Delivery, been advisor to venture capital funds and active angel investor, and mentored many startup founders and CTOs. I have a computer science degree from Cambridge University.
