Shweta is a public policy and media professional with 25+ years of experience across venture capital, technology and media organisations. As the Chief Public Policy Officer for Peak XV (former Sequoia Capital India and Southeast Asia) she worked closely with Central and state governments, regulators, think tanks and industry bodies to enable a progressive policy landscape for the startup ecosystem. Prior to joining Sequoia, she was the head of government relations for Salesforce in India & South Asia, and engaged with all external stakeholders on data privacy and cloud computing regulations. Previously, she led the Public Policy team at Uber across South Asia, enabling positive regulatory frameworks for ride-sharing and digital payments. Before joining the world of public policy, Shweta spent 18 years as a business journalist with leading media organisations actively covering the economic policymaking landscape in India. An award-winning mediaperson, she travelled regularly as a part of the Prime Minister's delegations to cover global economic events like the IMF-World Bank meetings and G20 Summits. She also provided extensive coverage of the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Annual Meeting in Davos for several years. Shweta has received many prominent fellowships, awards and honours including: - The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Fellowship by the US State Department under the Fulbright scholarship. - The British Chevening Scholarship for Journalism by the UK government - The coveted Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism by President Pratibha Patil - Seema Nazareth-Business Standard award for Young Journalists by President KR Narayanan at the Rashtrapati Bhawan - Asian Fellowship on Global Governance - IMPACT Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Women in Media in 2018; - Communicator of the Year by Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI).
