Sanjeev Sharma — Founder
I am presently a founder of two startups, Swaayatt Robots and Deep Eigen, focusing on autonomous driving and education, respectively. At Swaayatt, I am researching and developing autonomous driving technology that works in highly stochastic traffic dynamics, both on- and off-roads, and testing it on Indian roads and highways. Past Background: Before coming back to India and starting Swaayatt, I was admitted to Fall 2014 Computer Science PhD program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 2015, after obtaining a one year deferral, I gave up the PhD offer and started full time with Swaayatt Robots. I bootstrapped Swaayatt and built the autonomous driving technology single-handed until 2021 when we received our first round of funding. I n 2017 I had demoed multi-agent reinforcement learning based framework to enable autonomous navigation through tight stochastic roads in India, and throughout 2016-2018 I demoed autonomous driving technology, that I was developing, directly on Indian roads -- these were first ever such demos on Indian roads, and the first ever successful demo of reinforcement learning for autonomous driving. Research Areas: My primary research areas include, but not limited to: Autonomous Navigation, Motion Planning, Reinforcement Learning, Decision Making Under Uncertainty, Deep Learning, Mathematical Topology. Awards & Recognition: Some of the awards I have won along the way, as a recognition for my research in autonomous driving: 1) 51 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders (Globally) in 2019 --- awarded at the World CSR Day by Global Smart Cities Congress & Awards, Awarded on Feb 18, 2019 2) Top 40 Under 40 Data Scientist in India (2019) --- awarded at the Machine Learning Developers Summit by Analytics India Magazine, awarded on January 31, 2019 3) Won the CII India Innovation Summit 2018's National Pitch Perfect Competition where I presented our autonomous driving technology. This was a nation-wide competition and Swaayatt Robots won it. Miscellaneous: I meditate, and suggest everyone else to do the same. Inspiration: I started my research in autonomous navigation (focusing on motion planning, reinforcement learning, machine learning and mathematical optimization during undergrad) when I was in my 4th semester of undergrad, in January 2009, at IIT Roorkee. My inspiration was a video by Team MIT for their autonomous vehicle testing for the DARPA 2007 Urban Challenge. I have come a long way since then.
