  • When I first came across HFT roles, I’ll be honest, I didn’t fully understand terms like slippage, co-location, or alpha decay. But the more I interacted with candidates from quant and trading backgrounds, the more I realized how different and technical this hiring space was. I didn’t want to fake it, so I started from the ground up.
  • I joined HFT/quant-specific recruiter communities, spent time in trading forums, and started mapping out what a trading firm actually looks like from the inside, from researchers and strategy teams to infra and risk.
  • Over time, I built a personal database of IIT and NIT grads working in the HFT/MFT space across India, covering roles like:
  • Statistical Arbitrage Quant Developers
  • Delta One Traders
  • Python-based backtesters & live trading coders
  • Low-latency C++ engineers optimizing for microseconds
  • Execution and Market Making desks needing real-time reliability support
  • Some of the earliest roles I closed were for backend devs supporting trading infrastructure. Then came risk engineers, then quant researchers, and eventually FPGA engineers and desk-level quant traders. Each time I closed a more complex role, I learned something new — not just about the tech, but also about how traders think.
  • Now, I’m confident speaking with both founders building desks and candidates looking for better PnL exposure, and I keep refining my approach. But I still approach each search with curiosity — because HFT is fast-moving, and you have to stay sharp.
