Neex Voges — Operations Associate
👩🏼💻 After a few years in the hospitality industry, I set foot into the corporate world as an Executive Assistant to the CEO of a scale-up. I was fortunate enough to be involved in the Holdings company’s various subsidiaries, and encouraged to attend executive discussions and training as a form of personal development. My CEO ingrained 3 rules: 1. Work smarter, not harder. 2. Always present 3 solutions to solving a problem. 3. You can never over-communicate. Here, I thrived on organization, structure, & Google Workspace. ✈️ I changed trajectory and took a massive leap when I left RSA in 2018 for a teaching gig in Vietnam. That “gig” ultimately caused a pivotal shift in the way I observed myself, people, and communication. Over the span of 4 years, I’d taught over 2,000 students - spanning ages 2-40 yrs - and involved myself in various NGOs and feeding schemes. I Immersed myself in a totally new culture, and it’s sub-cultures. I explored its picturesque landscapes, steadfast traditions and flavorful cuisine. But my obsession rested in their bold coffee & humble people. ✌🏼My newly adapted Asian lifestyle didn’t fit into the structure-obsessed life I’d previously thrived on. The Vietnamese lifestyle is one of simplicity, pragmatism, humanitarianism and patience. Any inconvenience faces a “Không sao” (no problem) attitude. Your frustration/worry/stress will only be met with a smile, so adaptation to this was key to surviving. 🙌🏼 What my experiences ultimately formed was a hybrid approach to addressing obstacles I encountered. Control what you can, but for that which you can’t; Không sao. Shift your focus to controlling your reaction to these situations. After all, “worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum”. 🦠 Enter, Covid-19. Lockdown in a health-obsessed communist state was hellish. I learned a lot during those 18 months - and not just how to make the best banana bread. I won’t blab on about it here - but if you’re ever interested (in my SEA lockdown experience or the foolproof banana bread recipe), connect and let’s share experiences! ❤️ After my Asian adventure it was time to come home and reconnect - and I did just that! I spent the remainder of 2021 focusing on catching up, up-skilling and recruitment training. At the height of the Great Resignation & incremental technological demand - it’s a great place to be! Now, I aim to use my experience and innate passion for people to place them in roles where they can radiate. 🦄 I “get” people. In both senses of the word.
