Nitin Dwivedi — Product Manager
With 10 years of diverse professional experience—spanning industrial design, analytics, and product management in healthcare, geosciences, and fintech —I have worked in more domains than most people my age. I am proud of the challenges, learnings, and lateral-thinking opportunities these roles have offered me. I earned my MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Indore. During my studies (in 2018), I stumbled upon a summer internship that sparked my fascination with product management. This was a user research (UR) project where I interviewed CXOs from various health tech companies and translated my findings into product recommendations. Since then (6+ years now), I have been on a continuous journey to perfect the craft of a PM through my work at UnitedHealth Group, Microsoft, and now Razorpay. My top 3 takes on product management: - Be one with the customer: A great PM consistently ships great products, which is no easy feat. I believe only those who empathize deeply with their users can achieve this. I promise to always make this the #1 part of my role, wherever I work. I conduct primary and secondary research (often analyzing collected data) to identify underserved real needs.. I define "what we'll build" to solve these problems and iterate on solutions based on customer feedback. While a platform PM role might differ slightly, the core idea remains: building scalable platform capabilities that teams and customers can use to address their challenges more effectively. - Foster individual and team creativity: Everyone is creative, and if given the right environment to brainstorm and express freely, they can contribute innovative ways to reframe and solve even the most complex problems. I aim to listen better and simplify wherever possible. As someone who reads about 12 books a year, this habit has also helped me develop fresh perspectives. - Balance execution with strategic thinking: Early in their careers, PMs are advised to focus on execution skills. Later, they often hear, "You need to think more strategically to grow." I believe strategic thinking is crucial from the start. I've learned this the hard way—by working on problems that didn't advance my product in the long-term direction our product leaders intended. From these failures, I’ve gained a key insight: In addition to asking, "Why would our customer use or buy this?" I ask, "Why would my product offer or sell this?"
