My stint at DBS revolved primarily around formulating a strategy for the bank's entry into rural areas of India. As a stipulation by the RBI every bank with business operations in India needs to have a percentage of its branches in rural areas. My project involved looking at the operational and strategic nuances of implementing such a greenfield project for DBS, who so far has largely been restricted to the urban landscape.
I presented a detailed plan for a phased growth of rural branches for DBS. The deliverable broadly included recommendations on locations, services offered, staffing and branch operations.
