National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC), Bilaspur is one of the coal based power plants of NTPC. NTPC Ltd has mandated German business software major SAP AG for the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) package.
SAP ERP Analysis:
My key role was to analyse the SAP ERP system implemented in NTPC. SAP R/3 is three tier architecture: Database server, Presentation server and Application server. SAP ERP integrated all utility solutions including SEM, SRM, HR sales, inventory management and quality management aligning employees, strategies and processes and business.
Automation of core human resource processes such as legal reporting, employee training program, payroll system, monitoring progress on specific projects, tracking time spend and analysing results etc. It helped them achieve improved exchange of information, productivity and reduction of cost in management with better data consistency and budgeting process. With the improvement in operational efficiency improvement by improving overall inventory management e.g. fuel shortage situation across its stations. Seamless management of human capital across all stations with real time access to information at right time by authorized people. Few of the challenges it faced after implementation of SAP ERP were:
1. Reluctance of employees towards the adoption of new ERP system as compared to
switching from manual working system.
2. Updating software’s like software’s for training and development of employees.
3. Insufficient SAP training and awareness program for employee’s.
Employee Training Management Software on VB6:
Training Management Software was designed using VB6, for managing employees training during there probation period.
