OBSERVABILITY PLATFORM
As an Engineer on the Observability platform, I contributed to building the data transport, collection, storage, and discovery solutions for all the metrics collected from Freshworks product and platform teams. I primarily managed the data ingestion, querying and alerting pipelines to ensure real-time observability and insights.
Data Ingestion & Querying : We use Cortex, a distributed multi-tenant Prometheus, to manage the read/write path of metrics samples. We maintained the Cortex system on Kubernetes and implemented automation for scaling and ensuring high availability.
Alerting : Cortex supports multi-tenancy alerting, but it has limitations where it can't audit the alerts. I worked on an auditor which can store all the alerts to long-term storage (Elasticsearch), so that we can do auditing on top of that. Built the auto-deployment of alert rules to Alertmanager using GitOps model.
Availability : Scaled up Cortex Alertmanager and Ruler to High Availability (HA) mode, incorporating sharding and replication of alert data, with storage in S3 for enhanced reliability and performance.
Contributed to the seamless migration of the Trigmetry Cortex system - encompassing both stateless and stateful services from ECS to Kubernetes, ensuring zero downtime and no data loss.
