• The project was aimed at developing control systems for the seismic protection of historical column structures. I was selected through the DAAD-WISE programme and I worked on a project funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), Europe’s largest research funding organization. Researched under Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe E. Dorka at the Institute of Structural Engineering (Steel & Composite Construction), Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of Kassel, Germany and the President of the German-Humboldt Society. Studied a 2500-yr-old temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site, Italy), 195/80 feet in dimensions having 36 columns (~30 tonnes each. Worked on the mathematical modeling of the columns and conducted laboratory tests to validate the same (This work would be used in the testing of the large scale model of the columns). Worked in a multi-cultural team comprising of people from 8 different nationalities. Discovered and proposed the importance of the technique of user-defined code in ABAQUS, for the project.

• and the 1980 batch of alumni of NIT Trichy. It is a first of its kind laboratory in any engineering college in the country, setup with an expenditure of around 20 lakhs. It has now been incorporated into the Siemens Centre of Excellence in Manufacturing at NIT Trichy.
• I facilitated the interface between the alumni base, companies, faculty and the students who were interested in the laboratory.
• Mapped out the working mechanism for the laboratory and formulated the rulebook (constitution) for using the laboratory facilities, project selection process, budget allocation etc.
• I also helped in the blueprint designing of the laboratory using AutoCAD skills.
• It is now a fully functional laboratory in the institute & has more than 5 IoT based projects in progress.
