About

I am a highly-motivated leader with a deep experience building AI agents, databases, event streaming and distributed systems. I am the co-founder of Rox, the world s first enterprise-ready AI Agent swarm for revenue teams. We are a Series A company backed by Sequoia Capital, General Catalyst and Google Ventures. More than 35+ B2B companies including Ramp, OpenAI, Confluent, MongoDB, Nvidia use Rox. We are growing fast and are hiring across Platform, AI and Full stack engineers/ designers both in SFO and BLR. Reach out if you are interested. Prior to that, I lead the Kafka data-infrastructure org in Confluent tasked with a charter to deliver the fastest and cost efficient version of cloud native Apache Kafka in all 3 major clouds - AWS, GCP and Azure. I positioned Confluent Cloud (Kora) to be 10X faster than Apache Kafka which required taking apart and significantly rewriting parts of Kafka and Confluent Cloud. I was also responsible for putting Confluent on a path to profitability by significantly improving the contribution and operational margins. We also wrote a award-winning VLDB paper for the Cloud-native engine called Kora that powers Confluent cloud. Talk - https://www.confluent.io/events/current/2023/our-multi-year-journey-to-a-10x-faster-confluent-cloud Prior to that, I worked in Amazon Aurora, a cloud native relational database service in various roles. Aurora is the fastest growing database service in the history of AWS and has consistently had tremendous growth for the last 7 years since launch. Amazon Aurora is relational databases re-architected for the cloud based on the observation that the bottleneck in the cloud for databases has moved from compute and storage to the network. Aurora eliminates this bottleneck by moving redo log processing to a multi-tenant distributed storage purpose built for the cloud. Aurora has two SIGMOD papers and is also the recipient of the 2019 SIGMOD Systems Award. I have been an architect designing features, leading teams to deliver those impactful features for our customers, managing projects across cross-org teams involving various stake-holders and being extremely customer obsessed while managing the on-call and operations for the database team. I have also written, deployed, debugged and maintained hands-on scalable, multi-threaded code which has shipped with various versions of Aurora MySQL. I enjoy working in products that have deep technology and with highly energetic teams. I am passionate about all different aspects - performance, availability and durability of systems that deal with data.

  • I am the co-founder and CTO of Rox. We build Revenue Agents for the Global 2000. Rox is Series A backed by Sequoia, General Catalyst and Google Ventures. Our fundamental hypothesis is that the data has moved out of traditional revenue systems into the warehouse and the entire revenue industry is ripe for AI transformation. Rox is built with this in mind to be warehouse-native and AI-native from the ground up.
  • Organizations have their data spread across multiple data sources – structured data in their existing business systems like CRMs, ERPs, Support Systems, time-series usage data in their warehouse, unstructured data like emails, call transcripts and public internet unstructured data. To assemble all this context, we built a custom proprietary knowledge graph that sits on top of the warehouse and unifies data from the disparate data sources to serve as the context layer. On top of that, Rox manages a swarm of agents - one per account for each customer-facing rep in an organization. The agent orchestrates and reasons, becoming being responsible for research, outreach, meeting prep, opportunity management and more, making the CRM completely invisible. End users can chat with their agents conversationally as their interface or use pre-defined workflows / create new apps.
  • Rox already runs more than 25M agents and 4T+ tokens in production today. We work with more than 5000+ organizations across the globe across different sectors. These include leading financial institutions, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, semiconductors and sovereign AI stacks.

Confluent

Senior Staff Engineer / Senior Engineering Manager

  • I built a team of 15+ amazing engineers from the ground up in the core Kafka org. We are responsible for building Apache Kafka to be the fastest and cost efficient cloud native service for our customers.
  • We positioned Confluent Cloud to be 10X faster than Apache Kafka which required taking apart and significantly rewriting parts of Kafka and Confluent Cloud. We were also responsible for getting Confluent to be non-GAAP profitable (saving $MM+) by significantly improving the contribution and operational margins.
  • We worked on scaling throughout, minimizing latencies, contribution margin improvements and ensuring better TCO for our customers. The changes we do is cross-functional and entails driving changes all across the stack from control plane to core Kafka to achieve the necessary goals. Regularly met and worked directly with the CEO during my time to report, drive and deliver on these projects.
  • Published our work in VLDB here - https://www.vldb.org/pvldb/vol16/p3822-povzner.pdf. The paper won the best paper award for 2023.

Senior Software Engineer Technical Lead / Manager

  • I was one of the founding members in Amazon Aurora (http://aws.amazon.com/rds/aurora/), a MySQL-compatible relational database engine built for the cloud that provides enterprise relational database features at open source cost. Amazon Aurora was the fastest growing service in AWS during my time in AWS.
  • Being an early engineer, I have worked deeply across all the layers of the database stack including scheduling, query optimization, transaction processing, lock management, buffer pool, MVCC, logging, space management and replication filing several patents for my work. I was instrumental in scaling the team as the service grew, onboarding new customers, running day-day on-call operations while building new features and leading various initiatives in Aurora.
  • During my time, I also lead the team of 10+ responsible for building Amazon Aurora Parallel Query where we push down analytic queries to the distributed storage fleet (without affecting foreground OLTP) and were able to achieve up-to two orders of magnitude speed-ups. Our team built the next generation of Parallel Query which involved supporting grouping, aggregation, support for partitioned tables, LOB and Instant DDL. Using the parallel query technology, we also provided ultra-fast (multiple orders of magnitude) snapshot export of existing data to S3 for further analytics. I also lead and managed the 8.0 compatible version of Aurora MySQL cross-org across multiple database teams, storage, control-plane, UX, Console and DBEs.
  • Before that, I lead the database availability charter where I was responsible for improving availability SLAs for our customers and running day-day on-call operations for the database team. I was also responsible for scaling the performance of Aurora Multi-Writer, a multi-year project to have multiple writer instances write to the same shared storage at the same time. I drastically improved the performance of Multi-Writer by 3X to scale near-linearly with the number of writer instances.
