• Streaming and asynchronous communication (think of billions of messages in O(ms) latency)

Oct 2018 – Sep 2020 · 1 yr 11 mos

• Consolidated and grew Yelp's data infrastructure platform into a 33 member geo-distributed organization (3 teams based out of San Francisco, and 2 based out of London). Hired and developed several engineers and managers into technical leadership, senior management, and manager of manager roles.
• Scaled our platform to act as the foundation for our ~$1B revenue Ads business. Saved Yelp $1M+ through infrastructure consolidation, effective partnership, and making cost-effective technology tradeoffs.
• Pitched and secured executive sponsorship for a strategic cross-functional initiative at Yelp. Kick-started programs around data discovery, quality, and trust for executive-level decision makers across Product, Engineering, Finance, Sales, and Marketing at Yelp.
• Worked as a Chief of Staff to our VPs of Product and Eng for Data, doing whatever it took to set up the Data org for success.

Dec 2016 – Oct 2018 · 1 yr 10 mos

• Platformized our Kafka based analytics pipeline to a foundational streaming data platform for all of Yelp that supports >1B messages/day. Open sourced the platform and set an industry precedent in the real-time data streaming space. Hired and developed a high-performing team of 8 engineers.
• On the citizenship front, I pitched, secured sponsorship for, and executed an internal Data & ML conference. I also mentored several engineers with a focus on supporting URMs in tech.

Nov 2015 – Dec 2016 · 1 yr 1 mo

• Built out Yelp's first generation of analytics and metrics infrastructure to enable 50+ data analysts and scientists across the company. Responsible for guiding the technical vision of the team, coaching and career development of engineers. Wore the Product Manager hat until we hired a PM on the team.
• On the citizenship front, I ran Yelp’s internal company hackathon, organized external hackathons, and was extensively involved in university recruiting through partnerships & technical talks.

Jun 2012 – Nov 2015 · 3 yrs 5 mos

• Engineering product owner for the restaurant health inspections scores on Yelp - a feature that continues to be used today by our 100M+ Yelp users every day. Engineering product owner for content integration of Qype, Cityvox, and Restaurant-Kritik (Yelp's acquisitions in Europe).
• Developed our data ingestion and syndication platform to power >$10M revenue through Yelp's partnerships. Proud of getting Yelp data integrated with Siri and the Apple ecosystem.
• On the citizenship front, I drove efforts to introduce test-driven development, effective & empathetic code review practices. Proud of mentoring several engineers and interns who are now technical leaders, managers, and even startup founders!

• Simplex is a high-frequency trading startup. I built out the initial version of the trading platform's event bus / logging pipeline, and visualization layer to render real-time stock tickers.

• Drove lab sessions and lectures for the Computer Architecture course. Mentored and coached undergraduates. Icing on the cake: got an opportunity to work closely with Prof. Douglas Comer (one of the pioneers behind the Internet. Yes, the Internet :-) )
