  • Domain: High-performance computing for data centers.
  • Skills: Linux, Bash\PERL scripting, C, VHDL\Verilog\SystemVerilog, Hardware modelling, UVM, Vivado, QuestaSim
  • Key learnings: Ethernet protocols (IP/TCP), AXI protocols, Networking
  • In my internship with Xilinx, I worked on improving Quality of Service (QoS) through packet scheduling for better traffic management at Network Interface Card (NIC) (at data plane).
  • Packet networks allow users to share resources such as buffer and link bandwidth. Given a number of users multiplexed at the same link, a packet scheduling discipline is needed to determine which packets to serve (or transmit) next. Since data traffic is loss-sensitive, sophisticated scheduling algorithms (max-min scheduling, round-robin service, weighted round-robin, weighted fair queuing) are required to prioritize users' traffic to meet various QoS requirements while fully utilizing network resources.
  • I worked on those packet schedulers where I wrote/modified a variety of FSMs to achieve timing closure and system verification of that module of a programmable NIC with clock frequency of 156.25 MHz.
