About

I have a combination of hands-on technical skills, entrepreneurial experience (co-founder, LifeMojo), people management skills and an understanding of business opportunities. I understand what it takes to create a software product keeping customers in mind. I have 20+ years of experience in the software development space where I have had the privilege to lead multiple high performing tech orgs in Amazon, CodeNation (Trilogy) and now Google. I have set up teams which have delivered secure and scalable systems and machine learning models. I have partnered with CXOs, Product teams and Stakeholders in my various roles to create product roadmap, deliver business value and innovate for customers.

  • At Amazon, I led the engineering and delivery for Amazon's Marketing Attribution systems globally.
  • Amazon spends X billion dollars on marketing every year on 25+ online and offline channels including Sponsored Links (Google, Yahoo!, MSN), Shopping Ads, Social Ads (FB, Twitter), Emails, and Mass Marketing. Marketing Attribution systems process X million customer actions, Y billion visits and Z TB of data, across ~20 countries everyday and calculate 'incremental' impact of various marketing campaigns on these customer actions. My team, which was spread across Bangalore and Seattle, created machine learning models, operated them at Amazon scale in production and attributed every single customer action to help measure the true value of marketing at Amazon. We used big data technologies like Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), S3, Redshift, DynamoDB and various other internal and AWS owned big data systems to accomplish this.
  • My team helped Amazon's marketing teams and systems globally in optimizing their bidding algorithms (keyword, product, customer level) and optimize their multi-billion dollars worth of marketing investment decisions.

Head Of Engineering

Jun 2014Jun 2017 · 3 yrs · Bengaluru Area, India

  • At CodeNation, I headed the engineering org from 2014 to 2017 where I was responsible for overall delivery, design, architecture, customer success, hiring, training and team management. CodeNation is a young and high performance team. It was started in 2014 by ESW capital with a vision to create an R&D hub for a product called aLine (developed by ESW Capital).
  • CodeNation is primarily into:
  • 1. Program Analysis: Techniques which perform automated analyses of large codebases and come up with statistics to take an opinionated stand on the quality of the code. It leverages core concepts of computer science and software engineering such as being able to parse programs written in different languages and traversing a compiled code.
  • 2. Machine Learning: We leverage machine learning techniques to make software development more productive. For example we predict bugs in the code, give 3rd party library suggestions and point out inconsistencies in code.
  • ESW Capital started CodeNation with a group of 12 engineers in Bangalore. I led this team through multiple deliveries from 2014 to 2017 and grew it to 50+. I ran CNU (CodeNation University) 2015 and 2016, a 3 months bootcamp for new hires at CodeNation. CodeNation created multiple innovative additions to aLine product including something called a 'Code Graph' where we represented code as a graph instead of a tree to better check any coding violations and a 'Library substitution' product where we recommend already existing libraries instead of writing our own code. This helped us encode various new best practices in software development programmatically.
  • CodeNation was a profitable startup by 2017.

Chief Architect

Sep 2013Jun 2017 · 3 yrs 9 mos · Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • I worked as a Chief Architect for a product called 'aLine' at DevFactory (owned by ESW Capital). aLine is a platform which objectively measures quality for any codebase. aLine uses rule based matching and machine learning to find language level rule-violations, logical bugs or design violations in code. aLine enforces software development best practices programmatically. We licensed this product to one of the largest banks in the world for their 5000+ software applications generating $XX million in revenue. I invented an automated test case generator (patent pending) at DevFactory to scale the onboarding of products to aLine. Today, DevFactory manages over 100 million lines of code in over a hundred enterprise product code bases from industries as diverse as financial services, network management and engineering services.

  • During my second year at Via.com, I was heading the engineering org across multiple verticals like Flights, Buses, Hotels etc. I grew the engineering team from ~25 to ~80 and moved Via's systems from a monolithic architecture to a more scalable service oriented architecture. I also led the movement of Via systems from a local data-center in Bangalore to AWS. I led the delivery of a new product for selling Holidays online where customers could search for holidays based on their personal needs like "Kids friendly hotels in Singapore in the CBD area under $200 with free wifi". We created a semantic search engine in Via to power this product and launched it in 2013.
  • In 2017, EbixCash acquired Via.com.
