Jayanta Basak has made extensive contributions in machine learning, pattern recognition, data science and neural networks, as applied to myriad of domains. He holds 21 patents and published extensively in various journals and conferences. For these contributions, he is recognized as ACM Distinguished Engineer (2015); Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (2006); twice the annual technical role model award across industries (2014 & 2018) instituted by Zinnov (which is given to two people across all industries); and the young investigator award from the International Neural Network Society, USA (2000). Jayanta started his career as an associate professor at the computer and communication sciences division of the Indian Statistical Institute, after obtaining Ph.D. from the same institute. He earned his masters’ degree in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Science. Jayanta was awarded the Gold Medal for being the topper from the University earning the Bachelor of Engineering in electronics and telecommunication engineering from Jadavpur University.
