Amit Malik — Founder
I am a psychiatrist and a healthcare entrepreneur, and currently the founder and CEO of Amaha. After training in medicine in India, I specialises in psychiatry in Nottingham, UK, where I earned my Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and my Certificate of Completion of Training. My career began in clinical practice, with 15+ years in the NHS supporting thousands of individuals with complex mental health conditions. Over time, I served as Clinical Director, Associate Medical Director, and later as Commercial Director on the board of a major NHS mental health trust, while overseeing multi-site services in the South of England. Along the way, I deepened my expertise with a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and an MBA from London Business School, bridging the worlds of clinical care, leadership, and systems thinking. In parallel, I was a trustee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, President of the European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees, Chair of the Psychiatric Trainees Committee, and board member of the European Board of Psychiatry. I have also contributed actively to academia as co-author and editor of multiple textbooks and journal publications, and served on editorial boards of International Psychiatry and the International Journal of Social Psychiatry. These experiences deepened my commitment to building mental health systems that are clinically strong, scalable, and person-centred. In 2016, I founded Amaha to turn that vision into action. Today, Amaha is India’s largest private mental health organisation, with a team of 200+ psychologists and psychiatrists, and a total team of ~400 working across delivery, technology, and operations. Over the past year itself, we’ve supported ~40,000 individuals and families through our nine centres across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and through a digital platform that reaches clients across the country. In 2022, we expanded into child and adolescent mental health by acquiring Children First, a Delhi NCR–based institute with a 14-year legacy. The following year, in partnership with Ashish and Vasvi Bharatram, we established the India Mental Health Alliance (IMHA), a not-for-profit initiative designed to strengthen mental health systems by connecting stakeholders and building capacity. Most recently, in 2025, we launched our first super-speciality mental health hospital in Bangalore, dedicated exclusively to inpatient care for moderate to severe psychiatric disorders.
