This is what happens when you learn something new. It’s 6:25 am. I am sitting in my green chair. I get my phone out of my pocket and put it in front of my face. It tells me that it can't recognize my face, so I type in my pass code. The home screen is full of apps, and I take a second to find the app I want to open. It’s the Kindle app. It opens to page 263 of 481. I am about 57% done. The book I am reading is called Very Good Copy, by Eddy Shleyner. It’s about copywriting. Copywriting is the discipline of writing ads, advertisements, and website content to sell products. The chapter I am about to read is called Writing Immersive Stories. It begins with a story about a hospital visit. Eddie talks about his experience just before and right after surgery. He then breaks down a technique for writing stories called “realism.” He offers two more examples. I read them. I can’t stop. The technique is so effective that my mind won’t let me put my phone down. I finish the chapter, and I feel empowered. Inspired. Excited. I learned something new today.
