Rejeet Mathews — Director of Engineering
Rejeet Mathews is Program Director, Integrated Urban Development at the World Resources Institute, India. She is an expert member of the High-Level Committee (HLC) on Urban Planning set up under MoHUA as per Union Budget 2022-23. She was also a member of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) Committee that laid down criteria to select 5 Indian urban planning institutes to receive an endowment fund of Rs. 250 crore each among others, including for NULM. She has over 20 years of professional experience in urban and regional planning, environmental sustainability and climate resilience, urban mobility, urban design, gender, and affordable housing with a deep understanding of economic geography. Working at the intersection of research and practice, Rejeet leads teams at WRI India that are providing technical assistance to national programs such as Local Area Plans and Town Planning Schemes (LAP- TPS) under the AMRUT Mission, and the Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC-India) under PMAY (U). She currently leads the Eco City- Regions initiative that envisions ecologically resilient and economically productive regions, that uphold the principles of regenerative development and social well-being. She has also conducted several training and capacity building sessions for government and non-government stakeholders. In her previous consulting career, she has held key responsibilities on projects that range in scale from metropolitan region plans, city master plans, comprehensive mobility plans, sector design, detailed project reports, feasibility studies, and architecture. She has a comprehensive knowledge of cross cutting scales while being cognizant of the various processes employed to achieve well-grounded resolutions. Key projects worked on include the Development Plan for Greater Mumbai, 2014- 2034 (427 sqkm); Bangalore Metropolitan Region Revised Structure Plan 2011- 2031 (8,009 sqkm); the Master Plan for Bhiwadi, Tapookara and Khuskhera Complex (250sqkm); the Revised Master Plan for Bangalore 2005- 2015 (1306sqkm), and User Needs Assessment for the UDA Sri Lanka. Her work experience has been largely in the Indian sub-continent including Sri Lanka and Pakistan with further project related experience in countries such as France and Libya. She has travelled on assignments to Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. An architect and urban designer by qualification, she has lived in many Indian cities including Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Mumbai and currently resides in the Delhi- National Capital Region with her husband and son.
