Suzy Welch — CEO
Hi, Suzy Welch here. I'm a Professor of Management Practice at NYU Stern School of Business, where I teach two classes, one on best practices in management and the other on discovering one’s purpose. My new book, “Becoming You: The Proven Method for Crafting Your Authentic Life and Career,” an Amazon Book of the Year, is based upon the latter of those classes and is available from HarperBusiness now. I am also the CEO of Becoming You Media, which produces a popular podcast named (surprise!) Becoming You, publishes workbooks, a newsletter, and offers a suite of psychometric tools created to amplify the Becoming You approach to self-exploration and purpose-identification. One of those tools, The Values Bridge, is unique in that it measures and quantifies the gap between one’s current lived experience and one’s hoped-for life. Along with teaching, I am the Director of the NYU | Stern Initiative on Purpose and Flourishing, a center committed to advancing the discovery of authentic purpose for individuals and organizations alike. Outside of teaching, researching, and writing, I'm a regular contributor on the Today Show and CNBC, a frequent keynoter at corporate events, and a contributor to the Wall Street Journal. I have the honor of serving on two boards: ANGI, the publicly traded home services provider, and Humane World for Animals, the largest animal protection agency in the world. I began my career as a crime reporter for The Miami Herald after graduating from Harvard University. After a serendipitous reassignment to the business beat a few years later, I left journalism to attend Harvard Business School, where I graduated as a Baker Scholar, and began a new journey at Bain & Company. In 1995, I combined journalism and business at the Harvard Business Review, where I was named Editor. In my years at HBR, I conceptualized, edited, and wrote articles on leadership, organizational behavior, and career dynamics. After I left HBR in 2001, I wrote two international bestsellers with my late husband Jack Welch, "Winning," in 2005, and "The Real-Life MBA," in 2015. On my own, I wrote the 2008-2009 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller "10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea," a decision-making concept I originally wrote about as a columnist for O: The Oprah Magazine. I have been a guest lecturer at Stanford University and MIT’s Sloan School. I completed my PhD studies at the University of Bristol, where my thesis was about the intersection of identity, values expression, and career decisions. I live in New York with my three ridiculous dogs.
