  • I was the primary contact engineer for all projects and process conditions relating to the "Virgin Light Ends" saturated gas plant. Responsibilities included daily, weekly and monthly stewardship for VLE molecule management and caustic accounting for the Baton Rouge refinery. I balanced the energy budget for VLE on monthly and yearly basis. I developed the 2013 energy budget for VLE where I cut energy spending by 3.2% per barrel of crude processed. I was first contact for VLE operations crews, board operators, the technical business team and equipment engineers. The VLE unit comprises 10 distillation towers, the benzene stripper and the caustic regeneration unit. My long term projects entailed extensive use of the OSHA program for MOC, management of change. These projects included controlled document updates, implementation of safety and equipment integrity guidelines and minor and major field changes for energy optimization or capacity expansion.

  • I worked for three months as part of a team that handled problem trouble-shooting and improvement projects across six primary Shaw carpet plants in Dalton, GA. I dealt hands-on with two machines which manufactured Nylon 6 commercial carpet with direct-dye application. In this role I ran special projects to test carpet color integrity borrowing lab space at the nearby Dow Chemical lab. I spent two months working in the Shaw Chemicals quality assurance lab gaining experience with lab equipment designed to test the Shaw Chemicals surfactants, lubes and sequesterants for pH, refractory, viscosity and their reactivity with other chemicals. I also organized ten years' worth of Shaw Chem lab records and verified document and shelf sample retention compliance. I helped test and develop new time-efficient testing techniques and performed a safety survey of the Shaw Chemicals unit which included the periodic safety shower and eyewash inspection.

I spent a month on shift with the operating crew for the Coker and Vacuum Distillation Unit, where I recorded field data entry and learned to visually distinguish valve types and other machinery. In the technical department I was on a team tasked with finding the source of elevated silicone levels in unfinished product. I gave an end-of-term presentation on my semester's work to an audience of 25 process engineers and supervisors.
