About

Why should you be interested in me? I manage and direct software engineering teams, development managers, project managers, and quality assurance teams within dynamic, hi-pressure environments. I oversee the vision, development and maintenance of systems with hundreds of millions of global customers. I coordinate with stakeholders (both locally and abroad), establish requirements, and set schedules for products that generate annual revenues measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars. While at Amazon, I directly managed the personal and professional development of 150 people over the years, and led organizations of up to 30 simultaneous direct and indirect reports. I have served as a mentor to software developers, QA engineers, and all types of managers. I have led workshops on professional development for both engineers and managers. I'm a strong advocate for diverse teams, which is why I organized and ran Amazon Retail Pricing's Diversity and Inclusion Career Event (DICE). I have been responsible for recruiting, hiring, and firing (and everything in between) for all roles. I trained classes on SDE Functional Interviewing (SDE:FI), and was part of the core group to develop and then teach the Technical Leader Functional Interviewing (TL:FI) course. I was a bar raiser at Amazon for more than 10 years, I ran the EU Tech BR Core group for 2 years, and I conducted approximately 1,000 interviews while at Amazon. I inspire passion and excellence on the team. I am directly involved in the development and operational maintenance of highly-scalable distributed systems. I work with engineers, architects, and engineering managers to design and implement complex software solutions, including map-reduce clusters, machine learning pipelines, on-demand compute (e.g. AWS Lambda), AWS services, service-oriented architectures (SOA), and multi-threaded cross-platform applications. I use statistical modeling and analysis to review results and drive continuous improvement based on metrics and experiments. Specialties: Software Development Life Cycle, Scrum, CMMI. People management, development, and skill building. Getting the most out of a team, and hiring and developing the best. Management of software development, project management, and software quality assurance. Developing and maintaining business-critical systems with extremely high scalability and reliability. Own and develop complex service-oriented architectures, including map-reduce clusters, machine learning / artificially intelligent systems, and AWS services including DynamoDB, Lambda, and SQS.
